Some Words on HealingJul 07, 2020
A few years ago, I attended a seminar at Keck School of Medicine of University of Southern California called, Revisioning Healthcare. With drum circles, Native American healers, storytellers, scientists, doctors, and professors all gathering in the name of healing, this event was one of the most progressive things I've ever been a part of.
As we wade through the unprecedented waters of these times, I find the wisdom I relished in during this powerful seminar to be not only applicable, but necessary. As someone who has chosen the work of a healer, I vow to live by these teachings. I also want you to remember that you are healer too. Everyone has the ability to heal and be healed. We are all capable if we choose to tap in. I hope the words of the masters that spoke before me inspire you, guide you and help soothe you as you remember your power:
"A healer touches someone's heart."
"A healer is completely involved."
"A healer makes a connection and dedication of mind, body, and spirit."
"Nobody makes it alone. Connect with faith, communication and love."
"We have belly buttons to show that we were and forever are connected to someone else."
"Connect to something other than yourself."
"Show people the path. Shine the light. Be the change. But you can't do it for them."
- Carl A. Hammerschlag, MD.
"Without beauty, we cannot have healing."
"The body heals with play, the mind heals with laughter, and the spirit heals with joy."
"Don't fix, don't help. Serve. Service is the work of the soul."
"Healing is not linear."
"Give, but also receive."
"What are you willing to give in order to heal?"
- Professor Giancarlo Lucchetti, MD, PhD.
Revisit that last question: "What are you willing to give in order to heal?"
Times are challenging, my goodness, yes. There will be days it feels nearly impossible to feel good, to feel safe, or to feel hope - but re-ask yourself that question: "What am I willing to give in order to heal?" What sacrifices? What effort? What compassion? What dedication? What love?
Don't lose sight, my loves. You have the power to heal.
